How to Link FASTag to Your Bank Account for Hassle-Free Travel

FASTag, now mandatory, was first introduced in 2014 to streamline highway toll collection. Its primary objective is to enable cashless toll payments, reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas. Beyond making toll payments more convenient, FASTag also acts as a financial tool that tracks toll transactions and recharges. Since FASTag is an integral part of daily commuting, learning how to activate it is essential.

To use FASTag, attach the magnetic sticker to the front windscreen of your four-wheeler. When your vehicle approaches a toll plaza, the scanner automatically detects the FASTag and deducts the toll amount from your linked bank account or FASTag balance. This advanced system minimizes cash payments and significantly reduces queues and wait times.

Steps to Link FASTag to a Bank Account:

  1. Choose an Approved Bank: Select a bank authorized by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to issue FASTags. Most major banks in India provide this service.
  2. Visit the Bank’s Branch or Official Website:Online Method:
    • Access the bank's official website.
    • Navigate to the FASTag section, usually under "Payments" or "Services."
    • You can also link your bank account using UPI apps if FASTag support is available.

Offline Method:

  • Visit the bank's nearest branch.
  • Inform the representative about your request to link your bank account with FASTag.
  1. Provide Required Information: Submit the necessary documents, including your vehicle registration details and KYC (Know Your Customer) information. Follow the bank’s instructions for completing the activation process, whether online or offline.

Why FASTag is Essential: FASTag has revolutionized toll payments by enabling faster, cashless transactions, easing traffic at toll plazas, and improving overall travel convenience. Its benefits include online account management, nationwide acceptance, and environmental sustainability, making it an indispensable tool for every commuter.
